Producers Carbon Calculator Workshop with Cam Nicholson

Event description

Join us to learn how to calculate the amount of carbon emitted and captured on your farm.

Following the Paris Climate Agreement, the agricultural industries and their supply chain are setting targets towards carbon neutrality. This course has been put together due to significant demand from the Australian agricultural industries and the banking sector, following most multinational agribusiness companies and financiers setting carbon reduction targets for their supply chain in response to international agreements. Carbon neutral agriculture now appears an inevitable future outcome.

Cam Nicholson is a farmer and agronomist running a 396-hectare carbon-neutral livestock property on the Bellarine Peninsula. Cam will take the group through the Greenhouse Accounting Frameworks (GAF) for Australian Primary Industries

This course deals with:

  • The source of the drive, defining carbon accounting and carbon neutrality
  • Where these emissions sources and sinks exist in our farming systems
  • How we account for these, and the options to reduce emissions of methane and nitrous oxide, and store more carbon in soils and trees
  • How to measure the amount of carbon captured and emitted on farm using GAF

Every producer will leave the workshop knowing how much carbon they are currently emitting and capturing, and also how to calculate this again in the future.
Participants will require their own laptop and background information of their farm (exactly what information will be communicated closer to the workshop).

This workshop is strictly limited to 10 properties. Multiple people managing the same property are welcome to attend.
