PRODUCTIVE PASTURES

How well are your pastures performing?

To find out more about your pastures come along to a practical workshop with guest presenter Lisa Warn. You will learn how to assess the current state of your pastures so you can decide what action to take in order to optimise pasture growth, quality, biodiversity and sustainability.

Lisa is an agricultural consultant and researcher with a long history of working in the grazing industries. Lisa has conducted research investigating soil constraints, conventional and alternative fertilisers, grazing management and pasture persistence. Lisa was a co-developer of the SE Australia Pasture Paramedic tool.

THIS WORKSHOP WILL HELP YOU:

  • Objectively assess the current state of your pastures using MLA’s Pasture Paramedic and other tools (for pasture species ID, composition, ground cover etc).
  • Identify constraints to pasture growth, feed quality and utilisation.
  • Assess pasture performance using tools/apps to record livestock movements.
  • Decide if any action is required to improve the pasture & where to get the best return on investment -Manipulate or Renovate?
  • Use grazing management to improve productivity & persistence of pastures and reduce weeds.
  • Reduce your cost of production by more targeted use of fertilisers, reduced use of herbicides & reduced need
    for re-sowing.

This one day workshop is a mix of technical information, on-farm practical exercises and group discussion.
