Grammy-nominated Professor Louie & The Crowmatix have been expanding the borders of Americana, Roots, and Blues since the early 2000s. Based in Woodstock, NY, the group began as the studio backing band for producer and multi-instrumentalist Aaron “Professor Louie” Hurwitz, who worked for over 16 years with Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductees The Band, co-producing their comeback albums Jericho, High on the Hog, and Jubilation, and playing on their hit Atlantic City. Rick Danko gave him the moniker “Professor Louie.”
The Crowmatix—Professor Louie (keyboards, vocals, accordion), Miss Marie (vocals, percussion, piano), Frank Campbell (bass, vocals), Todd Mihan (guitar, vocals), and Dan Hickey (drums)—create a dynamic sound that blends Rock ’n’ Roll, Blues, Gospel, Folk, and Americana, framed by strong songwriting and vibrant live energy. Their deep connection with audiences fosters a family-like rapport, and their performances continually evolve with new material and inspired interpretations.
The band has released 17 albums of original, Blues, and Americana music on Woodstock Records, with recent releases including Rockin’ Legacy Vol. 1—which remained on the Relix/Jamband charts for four months—and Strike Up the Band, which spent ten months on the Contemporary Blues Roots Music Radio Charts. Their upcoming album, Crowin’ Around, will be released in 2025.
Professor Louie & The Crowmatix have performed at major festivals and venues across the U.S., Canada, and Europe, including the Strangecreek Music Festival, City Winery (NYC & Boston), Sellersville Theater, and The House of Blues in L.A. They’ve also been featured performers on The Legendary Rhythm & Blues Cruise.
The band has been inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame (NY Chapter) and holds a permanent place in the Canada South Blues Museum. Professor Louie is a recipient of the Robert H. Chambers Award for Excellence in the Traditional Arts from Common Ground on the Hill.
Described as “Killer Americana to the Max” (Midwest Record) and praised by Cash Box Magazine as “driven to match the all-time greats,” Professor Louie & The Crowmatix continue to honor and advance the traditions of American Roots music through heartfelt performances and masterful musicianship.
