Join Dr Connie Chong in this special five-part AOD Project ECHO Series. Held on Wednesdays 7.30 am-8.30 am (on alternating weeks to DiSS Breakfast Club), Dr Connie will speak with Youth AOD specialists on topics such as cannabis, vaping, nangs and more.

These sessions are designed for clinicians, nurses and educators.

  • Describe current trends in cannabis use amongst young people 
  • Examine the role of endogenous cannabinoid system for the short and long-term effects of cannabis 
  • Discuss how to diagnose and manage cannabis dependence and withdrawal
Wednesday 6 September 7.30am-8.30amSmoking and Vaping Cessation: What tools do we need? with Dr Adam Pastor

  • Discuss evidence-based interventions (including pharmacotherapies) for smoking and vaping cessation 
  • Learn brief intervention skills and motivational tools from real-world experience of a smoking cessation clinic 
Wednesday 1 November 7.30am-8.30amNangs, Whippets and Hippy Crack: The impacts of nitrous oxide with Dr Greta Moon and Dr Connie Chong

  • Understand the recent trends in the use and misuse of nitrous oxide amongst youth 
  • Understand the long-term impacts of nitrous oxide misuse (real case studies) 
  • How can GPs and primary care nurses help? Early identification and treatment of nitrous oxide toxicity 
Wednesday 15 November 7.30am-8.30amUnderage Drinking: What are the current trends we need to know? with A/Prof Yvonne Bonomo

  • Describe current trends in alcohol use amongst young people 
  • Understand the risk factors and risky patterns for developing alcohol independence 
  • Discuss elements of assessment and management of alcohol dependence in young people 
Wednesday 29 November 7.30am-8.30amBehavioural Addiction: Beyond Alcohol and Other Drugs
  • Learn about the key features of behavioural addictions, such as gambling and gaming disorder
  • Identify the profiles and risk factors for developing behavioural addictions
  • Understand the neural pathways involved in behavioural addictions
  • Introduction to current and emerging treatment approaches to behavioural addictions
