Event description

It's time to PROTECT your Park.

At 11am on June 5, World Environment Day, come to the steps of Parliament House, North Terrace, to help PROTECT Possum Park from the State Government's looming attacks.

Using the excuse of LIV Golf, the Government is drawing up plans for Possum Park / Pirltawardli (Park 1 of your Park Lands) that would require:

  • the destruction of hundreds of trees,
  • restricting access to the Park for several months each year and
  • the construction of one or more major new commercial buildings, such as restaurants, function centres etc.
Make an impact on World Environment Day, 5 June, by turning up with a toy or cardboard chainsaw, a toy possum or other creature, or any other colourful prop.

Create your own placard, with one or more simple messages to support "Open, Green, Public" and/or expose the Government's excuse for this planned Park attack, e.g. a slogan such as:
    • Parks not profit
    • Parks for People, not FIFO millionaires
    • Protect Possum Park, Pete
    • Don't Fence me in
    • Your Parks need LIFE not LIV

This is not about opposing golf!   We love golf in Possum Park / Pirltawardli (Park 1).  The existing golf course is a Park: Open, Green, Public.

Your Park Lands do not need to be fenced.  Your Park Lands would not be "improved" with new commercial buildings to cater to FIFO millionaires.

Most importantly, the 104 or more species that are found in this Park do not need Government-contracted chainsaws destroying their habitat.

The 104 species identified so farm by citizen scientists (like you) in Possum Park / Pirltawardli (Park 1)
The 104 species identified (so far) by citizen scientists (like you) in Possum Park / Pirltawardli (Park 1). How many would lose their habitat to the destruction of Government-contracted chainsaws?

    Please,  tell your friends.
