Event description

Lockyer Valley Regional Council invites you to join us for a great morning of learning, action and koala love!

Koalas need our help—and it starts in our own backyards! Come along to this free community workshop to learn about the threats facing our local koalas and discover practical ways you can make a difference.

Hear from the Experts:

  • Dr. Romane Cristescu - University of the Sunshine Coast's Detection Dogs for Conservation
Learn about local threats to koalas and an exciting new regional project aimed at understanding and protecting koalas from disease.

  • Eric Vanderduys - CSIRO
Discover how the National Koala Monitoring Program is using modern drone technology to track and protect koala populations across Australia and learn how and where to record your own sightings.

  • Luisa Lopez - The Behaviour Change Collaborative
Explore the Leave It dog training program and sign up for an upcoming event to help keep koalas safe from dog attacks.

  • Maree Clancy – Bunyas to Border
Understand the impact of habitat fragmentation and the importance of corridor planting to reconnect koala habitats.

Get Involved:

  • Brainstorm backyard-friendly actions to support koalas.

  • Take home a free koala resource tree! (One tree sapling per household – while stocks last.)

  • Enjoy a brief tour around a new restoration site aimed at creating habitat to support our native wildlife, including koalas.

Morning Tea Provided!

Enjoy a cuppa and a chat with fellow koala champions.
