Protecting the Opportunity: Practical IP Considerations for Researchers
Description
Protecting the Opportunity: Practical IP Considerations for Researchers
What intellectual property can arise from research, and how can it be protected and used to support commercial impact?
This practical session with patent attorney Dr Tim Stirrup (Prime Innovation) will introduce the main forms of IP relevant to university research, with a particular focus on patents: what they protect, the requirements for obtaining protection, and how patent strategy can develop alongside research and commercialisation. It will also briefly cover trade secrets, trade marks and other complementary forms of protection.
Researchers will learn how to recognise potentially valuable IP, manage publications without inadvertently disclosing enabling details, and understand what investors are looking for in an IP strategy. The session will also provide practical guidance on addressing the IP component of a UC Ignition application.
Please join us from 10:45 am for coffee/tea and biscuits. The seminar will begin promptly at 11 am to allow time for audience Q&A.
This event will be catered so please 'Register' your attendance.
