Commonly Asked Questions:
What do I need to bring?
Sleeping bag, or linen and pillow (sleeping in bunk beds), clothes, slippers (optional), thongs/crocs, toiletries, towels, shoes that can get muddy/wet, medication, etc. Food will be provided.
How will we get there?
We will be meeting at Southern Cross Station to catch the 3:24 PM train to Yarragon. From there we will have a coach to Allambee Camp. But you're welcome to make your own way there if you prefer.
If you CANNOT catch this train or make your own way there (i.e. you have a lab or tutorial class that really can't be rescheduled or missed), committee members may be able to drive from Yarragon Station for a very limited number of attendees. If this is you, please contact us to discuss.
How will we get back?
We will be arranging a coach from Allambee Camp which will take us to Yarragon Station. We will then catch a train from Yarragon Station that arrives to Southern Cross Station around 5:05 PM. As above, you are welcome to make your own arrangements back if you prefer.
I have no friends coming along with me. What do I do?
You are far from alone. The PSS Wellbeing Retreat is designed to make connections — whether you’re in your first semester or your final one. Plenty of people arrive knowing absolutely no-one or perhaps recognising someone who sat across from them in a lecture theatre, but leave getting to know a couple people within their cohort or across year-levels. It’s a great way to build up your social confidence in a welcoming environment and the PSS committee, comprising of students from all year levels and diverse interests, are all friendly faces for you too! We'd love to welcome you to our diverse physics community.
I may or may not have procrastinated and now I’ve left an entire Theoretical Physics 3 assignment to do over the weekend. What do I do?
Although the PSS encourages you to spread your workload well before the due date to prevent burnout and cram studying, sometimes such is the university life. Activities on the Wellbeing Retreat are designed to be flexible and non-compulsory, which allows for downtime which you may use for studying/resting if you wish to do so. We will also be running a social study session during the retreat, which may be of interest to help solidify your own understanding of content covered in class.
I'm not a physics student, can I still come?
Yes! Everyone is welcome. The only requirement is you must be a member of the Physics Students’ Society. Membership is free and you can sign up in less than two minutes here.
If you have more questions, we would love to answer them! Find us at any of our PSS events, or shoot us a message through any of our socials! Otherwise, feel free to also email any retreat-related enquiries to pssretreat2025@gmail.com.
