Psychedelic cacti workshops
As part of Sporulation 2023, ethnobotanist Dr Liam Engel will be running two workshops on mescaline cacti.
The first, introductory workshop explores mescaline and the relationship of this psychedelic with special species of cacti, most notably Peyote (Lophophora williamsii) and San Pedro (Trichocereus sp.). Attendees will learn how to identify magic cacti and related harm reduction techniques. We will also practice a unique technique for seed germination and seedling raising. Attendees will make their own terrarium and plant their own San Pedro seeds. 90 minutes (9-10:30am). Limited to 20 participants.
The second, intermediate workshop focuses on more advanced mescaline cacti propagation techniques. Most professional growers obtain their plants by growing from seed, grafting and trading – few people can afford rare cacti at market value. In this workshop, participants learn about San Pedro horticulture and techniques for accelerating the growth of slow-growing and valuable cacti. Attendees will have the opportunity to try their own hand at grafting and micrografting, and will return home with their own grafted, rare mescaline cacti. 90 minutes (11-12:30pm). Limited to 15 participants.
