Psychedelic Discussions: On the Psychopharmacology of Classical Psychedelics
Event description
Join us in the first discussion of what we hope will be a series of talks on psychedelics, hosted by Jason Matulatan and Adrian Polecki, two junior psychiatry doctors interested in creating a dialogue in the psychedelic community in anticipation of the progressive legalisation and integration of the medicines into current society.
In this first talk we will be discussing in a easy-to-understand manner how the classical psychedelics are thought to work in the brain, and how those changes may lead to improvements in mood and perspective. We’ll also elaborate how psychedelics compare to anti-depressants (SSRIs) and the role of neuroplasticity in bringing about well-being.
This will lay down some of the ground-work for further talks on topics such as brain mechanisms, safety and psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy in an attempt to provide an additional perspective on the nature of the psychedelic experiences and how they may be a potentially very useful tool in the future.
This talk (including Q&A) will run for about an hour, followed by a more casual discussion and catch-ups for the second hour. We are keen to see you there!
