Course Description:
Psychological injury claims represent approximately 11 per cent of all claims and account for more than 30 per cent of the cost of claims. With return to work following a psychological injury recognised as being 2-5 times slower than physical injuries, it is important that employers adopt an early and empathetic approach to claims management in order to optimise return to work outcomes for psychological injury claims.

This course, featuring an expert panel discussion, will explore strategies that employers can utilise to adopt a best practice, person-centred approach to return to work for psychological injury claims.

Learning Outcomes:
Completion of this course will enable participants to:
• Understand and identify the different types of mental health conditions that may affect your workers
• Identify and define your role and responsibilities when responding to mental injury concerns
• Develop and apply strategies for having effective conversations in the context of support and recovery
• Develop and implement self-care and coping strategies
• Develop and implement strategies for building resilience and accessing supports

This course is recommended for those responsible for managing psychological injury claims or supporting employees experiencing mental ill-health such as Return to Work Coordinators, Workers Compensation Managers, HR Managers and Leaders.

About the Trainer - Meg Hansson, Learning & Development Specialist, EML

Meg has worked in workers’ compensation, return to work and occupational health and safety for over 20 years. During this time Meg has applied her skills, knowledge and experience in a range of roles including as a trainer and facilitator, learning designer, advisor, Mental Health and WHS Specialist. Meg has extensive experience interpreting legislation and is passionate about helping learners achieve their career and study goals.

Meg holds a Diploma of Workplace Health and Safety, Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, Diploma of Fitness and a Diploma of Human Resources.
