What is the purpose of the workshop?

The workshop is part of a research project focused on helping Australia better confront three fundamental challenges relating to bushfires: risk to life and property, conserving biodiversity, and adapting to climate change.

Understanding people’s values and priorities is an important aspect of this research. The workshops are your chance to share what matters to you, and explore practical options for managing bushfire risk in South West WA.

In this facilitated dialogue, you will engage in discussion and activities, supported by a workbook to help you:

• learn more about the difficult choices involved in managing bushfire risk in South West WA

• reflect on the values and priorities that are important to you and as a community

• explore different options for managing bushfire risk now and into the future

• consider potential impacts of these options on people & ecosystems, and how to manage trade-offs

What will participation involve?

Attendance at an in-person event at the Denmark CRC, for a 6-hour workshop [10am – 4PM].

Participation in this workshop is voluntary and can be withdrawn at any time.

Lunch, snacks and drinks will be provided on the day.

Are there any other incentives being offered?

To acknowledge the contribution of time and potentially travel costs involved in participation, we are offering a small gesture of appreciation and reimbursement to any participant who wishes to request it. This gesture will take the form of a Visa Gift Card loaded with the value of $150. Requests can be made on the day, or within 1-month following the workshop.

Can anyone participate?

This is a workshop for members of the general public, which means anyone who is not employed in a state government role related to biodiversity or fire.

There are other opportunities to be participate in this research project if you are professionally involved, so please feel free to contact the research team on the details below if you’re in that category and interested. (Note: if you work as a volunteer in these areas (e.g. as a volunteer firefighter), or for local government only, you are eligible for these public workshops).

This project is part of a Discovery Early Career Researcher Award (DECRA) project (Grant ID: DE210101163) funded by the Australian Research Council and led by Dr Clement. Additional funding for the project has been provided by the Australian National University via the Brooke Bushfire Fund.
