Description

The Faculty of Fine Arts and Music (University of Melbourne) in conjunction with The Australian Council of Deans and Directors of Creative Arts (DDCA) present a public lecture:

Professor Wesley Enoch (Chair of Creative Australia, DVC Indigenous Australia at QUT and Co-Chair of Annamila First Nations Foundation) delivers a public lecture on Who Gets to Imagine the Future?

Can Creative Arts truly prepare people for the future? Consider how many of our systems are still shaped by colonial thinking, old hierarchies, and a narrow focus on economic value. In a time of climate change, artificial intelligence, social/political division and rapidly changing cultural forms, these approaches may no longer serve us. Whose knowledge is valued, whose voices are missing, and what kinds of creative practice are being supported? It is time to embrace how arts education can give people the imagination, confidence and cultural authority to help shape the future—not simply adjust to it.

Chaired by Prof Jane Davidson (Victorian College of the Arts, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music; and DDCA President)
