Latest Update:

We are fortunately graced with clear skies tonight! However, please note, our forecast predicts highs of 43F tonight, so please dress accordingly, as it will be chilly.

Also, please note, the entrance to the building will automatically lock at 10pm, after which, no further entries can be admitted. We encourage you to attend the talks and short musical performance in the Phillips Auditorium, which starts at 7.30pm, however, if you're planning on arriving later, then we encourage you to arrive no later than 9pm.

Previous update:

Hello avid stargazers!

A friendly reminder, as the April Public Observatory Night is sold out, please get in touch if you can no longer make it and would like to cancel your ticket, as we have many people on a waiting list.

The Public Observatory Night is Thursday April 25 at 7.30pm! This event is held in the Phillips Auditorium, which is at the rear of the Harvard College Observatory complex near Madison Street and our large parking lot, 60 Garden Street, Cambridge. Parking lots marked for observatory staff are open to the public and all parking is free, but is first come first serve. Please arrive 15 minutes in advance to ensure you have enough time to park and to get seated.

A few important points to keep in mind:

- This is a ticketed event, and all attendees must have a ticket for admission. Unfortunately, this event is now sold out and no further registrations can be accommodated. Cancelled tickets will be readministered to people on the waitlist.
- Observations on the roof are weather-dependent. In case of unfavorable weather conditions, the talks will proceed as scheduled, but outdoor observations will be canceled.
- Access to the Harvard College Observatory roof is via stairs only. However, for individuals with mobility restrictions, one telescope will be accessible on the ground floor by the front entrance.
- Ensure you dress warmly for the occasion.
- Please note that high heels are not permitted on the HCO roof.

We look forward to your presence at the event!

Original details:

This event is sponsored by the Harvard College Observatory. The HCO sponsors a variety of free programs for the public. Among these events are Observatory Nights, typically held on the last Thursday of select months, but may be subject to change. Observatory Nights feature two 15-minute non-technical lectures, and telescopic observing from the observatory roof if weather permits. The lectures are intended for high-school age and older audiences, but children are welcome. Admission is free, however, tickets are limited, and seating is first-come, first-served.

These events are held in Phillips Auditorium (at the rear of the HCO complex near Madison Street and the large parking lot), 60 Garden Street, Cambridge, about 1 mile west of Harvard Square. Parking lots marked for Observatory Staff are open to the public on event nights. Parking is free.

Please check the HCO events website (https://hco.cfa.harvard.edu/news-events/) for details.
