Public Talk Ancient Wisdom, Modern Sanity — A Clearer Way to Be Human
Description
Ancient Wisdom, Modern Sanity — A Clearer Way to Be Human
These days, life on the Coast has a way of sweeping us off our feet. We rush, we tighten, we brace. We pretend we're keeping up, but inside we're exhausted.
This talk is not about escaping that. It's about turning toward it.
Tibetan Buddhist teachings remind us that the mind is not an enemy to be subdued, nor a machine to be optimised. It is a wild horse — powerful, sensitive, and entirely workable once we stop trying to outrun it. When we learn to sit with its energy, we discover a steadiness that doesn’t depend on perfect conditions. From that steadiness, a more spacious way of living becomes possible.
In this talk, we’ll return to two simple principles that sound ordinary, but change everything when they’re lived:
knowing your own mind
knowing how deeply you are shaped by everything around you
When you see this clearly, you realise something simple and radical: your own steadiness is an offering to the whole community.
If you've been longing for a little more clarity, a little more gentleness, a little more room to breathe — this gathering may help. Not by giving you a new identity, but by helping you drop the armour you didn't realise you were wearing. You’ll be met with practical guidance and a quiet encouragement to be human. Come exactly as you are, and let the evening do its gentle work.
Lama Choedak Rinpoche, a seasoned practitioner, will speak about settling the mind without forcing it, meeting stress without collapsing, and creating homes and neighbourhoods that feel less like battlegrounds and more like places to land. His approach is grounded, compassionate, and refreshingly direct — ancient wisdom offered in a language that meets modern life.
What we'll explore
Simple, honest ways to calm the mind
How our environment shapes our inner weather
How clarity and compassion arise when we stop pretending
How one person's groundedness can shift the atmosphere for everyone
This is an invitation for neighbours, carers, teachers, workers — anyone who senses that life could be lived with more sanity and less struggle. If you’ve been carrying a lot, you don’t have to carry it alone.
