Event description

Traditional media has been adapting to the forces of technology for decades. Whether it be the disruption caused by digital platforms funneling advertising money into its coffers or a destabilising dependence on the algorithms that sit between online media and readers.

Whatever dynamics the media and publishing sector have dealt with in the past two decades, they are now supercharged with the increasing role of AI and the relationship with the companies building these models is complex. Add in the ‘American AI first’ stance of the Trump Administration and its distaste for traditional media and it really is a jungle out there.

CEO of Espresso Communications, Publisher of InnovationAus.com and Director of the National Press Club, Corrie McLeod has returned from a publishing and media study tour of the United States.

The objective of the visit was to better understand the media sector and the technology, commercial and government forces that are shaping it.

Please join us for a special presentation, panel and Q&A where we will discuss;

  • The Trump Administration’s ‘sin binning’ of the Associated Press and the challenges of 83-year-old Voice of America
  • The fight between private equity, community media and the Tech Bros
  • Deal or no deal – the ongoing negotiations between publishers and the tech companies
  • From micro to macro aggressions – what can we learn from international experiences to preserve the Fourth Estate at home?
  • Trust, relationships and value in the age of ‘AI Slop’

Panelists to be announced.
