What’s the meaning of life?
What’s my purpose?
What does being a good person look like?
Is AI good or bad for society?
Should I return my trolley to the bay?
That’s Publosophy. We meet monthly to think over a drink.
Real conversations about the curly questions that confound us everyday.
Publosophy is open to everyone that is curious, looking for engaging and challenging conversation, and who is as good at listening as much as talking.
We’ve secured a venue that is exclusively ours for the night so we can talk openly and comfortably without annoying other patrons.
That means we need to plan ahead and secure enough bookings to cover minimum venue costs.
But here’s the good news… your $30 pre-paid ticket gets you pizza and one drink so it’s not a fee, it’s just an advanced payment for what you’d buy anyway. Pre event ticket sales also ensure we can cater properly on the night.
Pizzas are from the menu and include a vegetarian option. Gluten bases are available for an additional $5. Please be sure to add your preferences at checkout.

FAQs
- Can I pay for my ticket on the night at the venue?
You can but you risk missing the event as we are limited in terms of numbers and priority is given to pre purchase ticket holders. We recommend you buy your tickets online before the event to secure your place.
- Do I need to know anything about philosophy to fit in?
Not at all. Publosophy is about having open conversations about life and some of the bigger questions and challenges we all face. We will talk about philosophers and philosophical concepts but in a very accessible and easy to follow way. We are all here to learn from each other. No academic talk or high-brow stuffiness here!
- Do I have to get up in front of a crowd to speak?
No, only if you want to. We encourage questions and also group conversation. Thst means being involved in small circle chats, but you won’t be asked to present a thesis in front of an audience.
- Do I have to drink to be part of the event?
You do you. Think of it as a normal night out. Soft drinks are available. It’s about being social, not about the booze. We also recommend everyone drinks responsibly so that they can enjoy their conversations and remember them the next day!
- If I don’t eat or drink do I still have to pay $30?
A utilitarian would say you must act in a way that promotes the most good for the most amount of people. We like that idea. Lachie and Jeanette love this concept and are prepared to open up their venue just for us. But that costs them money in wages, overheads and other costs. So the ticket price is about access. The fact you get dinner and a drink for that is a bonus. If you really don’t want to pay then you might like to sign up for our online webinars that will be free. Coming soon.
- Is there parking at the venue?
Yes, Grainfed has limited off street parking inside the gates otherwise there is plenty of street parking outside the venue on Young Rd and nearby streets.
- I have very strong opinions that everyone should listen to. Just saying.
Life is full of interesting people. But you’ll never know if you don’t stop and listen to them. Publosophy starts with the assumption that all of us are still learning about life and all of us have unanswered questions. We need to allow room for those questions… and opinions are usually a very ineffective way of answering them.
But you’re welcome to come with an intention of listening and learning. Just saying.
- Does Grainfed have good beer?
Does a bear shit in the woods?
(Indeed one of the greatest philosophical questions).
Yes, Grainfed have some of the best locally produced beers in town from dark porters and red ales to IPAs and lagers, all made onsite.
Most of the beers are pretty much gluten free based on the brewing process and I've heard people with gluten intolerance can even drink them. But that does not constitute medical advice okay?
Drink responsibly. - Does Grainfed Brewery serve any other drinks than beer?
They sure do. A nicely curated selection of wine and all your usual soft drinks.
- Will I discover the meaning of life?
No. But you’ll meet a lot of really interesting people who are also on the journey to find the Holy Grail.
(Pro tip… the meaning of life might be the journey itself)
- How long does the event go for?
The format of the evening is still being worked out but if you're just coming for the philosophy then many 90 minutes. If you're coming for the interesting conversation and social catch up then you can stay on for as long as you like. The place is ours for the night so make yourself at home!
