TOR.MA IN DUB

Tor.ma in Dub is the project of Mexican producer Rafael Hernández, based in Playa del Carmen. Active since 2006, his music centers on a heavy, bass-forward take on steppers dub, laced with experimental sound design and layered atmospheres. Originally emerging from electronic music circles, his approach to dub has evolved into a style he describes as “psychedelic stepper dub”—a fusion of roots influence with a darker, more hallucinatory edge tailored for sound system culture.

With eight albums and numerous EPs, remixes, and collaborations, Tor.ma in Dub has built an extensive discography across labels like Dubmission Records, Svaha Sounds, Beats and Pieces, and Iono. He has worked with artists including Kaya Project, Tripswitch, Pitch Black, Vlastur, IshDub, Alpha and Omega, Suns of Arqa, and Fikir Amlak. His tracks often start as spontaneous ideas recorded on his phone, later developed in Ableton with live dub effects, analog gear, and unconventional sound sources—ranging from melodica lines to mouth-made noises.

Tor.ma in Dub has played at major international festivals such as Boom, Mo:Dem, Hadra, Tribal Gathering, and Cosmic Convergence, performing across Latin America, the U.S., and Europe. In Mexico, he’s part of a growing local dub scene led by crews like Bass Attack Sound System, while continuing to tour abroad. Over the years, he has supported live shows for Mad Professor, Zion Train, and Indica Dubs.
