Event description

Puppetry for Improvisers

Before the summer ends you could become a double-threat–an improviser-puppeteer!

In this six-week advanced workshop you’ll hone the fundamentals of improvising with puppets, develop dozens of different puppet personalities using techniques from commercial voice-acting, and explore how puppets empower and inspire more physical scenes & more specific characters!

Dates & Topics

This workshop runs each Saturday from 1pm-3pm on the following dates:
June 3
Synchrony & Syllables: An Introduction to Puppetry

June 10 “Look me in the eyes!” Puppets, Power, & Eye Contact

June 17  All The Colors of the Windbag: Character Voices in Puppetry

June 24  “Hit me!” Puppet Physicality & Action

July 8
  You’re a Puppet too: Non-traditional Puppetry & Stage Picture

July 15  Practice Makes Puppet! A Skills Review

Note:
THERE IS NO CLASS ON JULY 1st. We sadly cannot offer the above sessions on a one-off basis–the classes build on each other, so enrollment is for the whole series.

Prerequisites: Puppetry requires focus and this workshop may be challenging for those without significant improv experience. Students enrolling should have completed 3 or more sessions of 8-week classes at any improv theater (or equivalent), and it’s strongly suggested you have at least 1 year of experience improvising.
