Puppetry for Improvisers
Event description
Puppetry for Improvisers
Back to improv school! Become a double-threat–an improviser-puppeteer!
In this six-week advanced workshop you’ll hone the fundamentals of improvising with puppets, develop dozens of different puppet personalities using techniques from commercial voice-acting, and explore how puppets empower and inspire more physical scenes & more specific characters!
Dates & Topics
This workshop runs each Saturday from 2pm-4pm on the following dates:
Sept 14 Synchrony & Syllables: An Introduction to Puppetry
Sept 21 “Look me in the eyes!” Puppets, Power, & Eye Contact
Sept 28 Craft Day: Make Your Own Puppet!
Oct 5 “Hit me!” Puppet Physicality & Action
Oct 12 All The Colors of the Windbag: Character Voices in Puppetry
Oct 19 Practice Makes Puppet! A Skills Review
(Classes are subject to re-ordering at instructor discretion)
Note: We sadly cannot offer the above sessions on a one-off basis–the classes build on each other, so enrollment is for the whole series. We’re excited to watch you grow and thrive as an improv puppeteer!
Prerequisites: Puppetry requires focus and this workshop may be challenging for those without significant improv experience. Students enrolling should have completed 3 or more sessions of 6-8 week classes at any improv theater (or equivalent).

The Instructors
Adrian Vazquez is a founding member of the All Out Comedy Mainstage Cast, and has been teaching improv since 2006. In 2018, he piloted All Out Comedy’s monthly improvised not-for-kids puppet show “The Felt Experiment” which drew big, enthusiastic audiences until he and the puppets were driven indoors to do music videos about the pandemic.
Dane Fox-McGraw is a voice actor, improvisor, podcaster (Check out his podcast Dispel Magic!) Improv has been instrumental in his voice work with companies like Apple, and in creating characters for cartoons and video games. Dane also co-developed and premiered "The Felt Experiment" at All Out Comedy.
Both Dane and Adrian can be seen onstage the 3rd Saturday of each month in Party Onward, an improvised fantasy adventure and the 4th Friday in Puppets & Comedians.
