Purpose Disruptors Pub Gathering
Description
What does a good life mean to you?
A flashy car? Adventures across the globe? Peak career achievements? Or simply having everything at the click of a button?
Advertising - the industry of desire - has long shaped our idea of the Good Life: wealth, status, and stuff. But this vision has two major flaws.
Firstly, our planet can’t keep up with endless consumption: we’d need four planets if everyone lived like Australians. And secondly, piling up more stuff doesn’t make us happier; studies show that chasing material wealth often increases disconnection and anxiety.
A few years back in 2022 in London we created Project Good Life in response.
To begin with we brought together agency leaders and advertising creatives to ask them if they believed that our industry was truly delivering on its potential and promise to society. Complimented by researching what a future good life meant amongst a cross section of ordinary citizens.
These findings were all neatly summarised in a 15 minute film. Good Life 2030.
Fast forward five years later and at our next Pub Gathering we’ll not only be showing this original 15 minute Good Life film, but we’ll follow it with a discussion featuring Kate O’Ryan-Roeder (CEO, Havas Media ANZ), Darren Borrino (Group Creative Lead, TBWA Sydney), and Kirsty Muddle (CEO Ogilvy ANZ).
We’ll be getting their views on what they think a good life might mean for Australians today; whether the advertising and media industry could reimagine its role and help bring into being the good life citizens might dream of, and what this could mean for the future of the industry.
Yet another risk or the opportunity this industry was made for?
See you there.
