After the sudden death of the head of a major Madison Avenue advertising company, the chairmen of the board accidentally elect the token diversity hire, a gravelly-voiced man by the name of Putney Swope, as the new head of the company, and what follows is a descent into pure chaos, as Swope fires and hires his employees on seeming whims, replaces all the white employees with his soul brothers, and oversees the evolution of his television advertisements into almost pornographic pieces of surrealism.
