We’re finding ways to celebrate HERstory through public place commemoration. Representation matters. It is important and empowering to see ourselves reflected in the people being celebrated in our environment.

We know that this is not the case for everyone - there is significant inequality in who is commemorated and how. But great work is being done. There has been a big push from advocacy groups in promoting commemorative justice. Rules are changing, gaps being researched, stakeholders being engaged, projects developed, and existing commemorations being made more visible.

Moving forward - what role can government, arts and culture play in propelling the visibility of women in public place? What would it mean if Victoria became the first place in the world to achieve commemoration justice status?
