The theme of QATACON26 is Stories We Tell.

Visual art is one of the oldest ways we make sense of the world and one of the most powerful. Through images, objects, processes and spaces, artists tell stories that carry memory, challenge perspectives and give form to lived experience.

The Stories We Tell invites visual art educators to explore how stories are shaped, layered and communicated through visual practice. QATACON26 celebrates the role of visual art as a language for meaning-making, connection and inquiry in contemporary classrooms and beyond.

Across the program, a diverse group of contemporary artists will share the stories behind their practice through inspiring keynote addresses and hands-on workshops. Participants will engage in rich professional dialogue, build networks with fellow educators, and deepen curriculum knowledge through practical, classroom-ready approaches.

Together, we will reflect on the stories we inherit, the stories we create, and the stories we empower our students to tell through visual art.

Thursday 16 July - Join us for the opening event. This is a free event and includes food, drink and artist talk. Please rsvp during registration.

Friday 17 July Collaborate and connect with colleagues to explore contemporary art practice with keynote speaker, Michael Zavros, updates on the Australian curriculum and Senior syllabuses, the Educator showcase practical workshops and networking with your colleagues.

VENUES: Southbank TAFE

Join us in the evening for our special closing event of the Art Teacher Art Exhibition, Woolloongabba Art Gallery, followed by food, drinks and fun at Can You Keep a Secret Bar.

Saturday 18 July Start the day with keynote speaker Christian Thompson followed by a great selection of ever popular hands-on professional development practical workshops.

VENUES: Southbank TAFE and Queensland College of Art and Design, Southbank.

No matter how many days you are attending QATACON26, you are welcome to join your colleagues at the following events:

Thursday 16 July - Opening event with artist Brian Robinson. 5pm arrival for a 5:30pm start. Venue - Onespace Gallery.
Friday 17 July - Art Teacher Art Exhibition at Woolloongabba Art Gallery followed by a cocktail style gathering at The Mix Bar.
Saturday 18 July - Closing event at Brisbane Portrait Gallery from 6pm-7:30pm.

Please nominate a colleague for Life Membership Award for Outstanding Service to Visual Art education in Qld.

This award is presented annually at the State Conference. The recipient will be recognised for his/her contribution to Visual Art Education in Queensland and receive life membership of QATA.

QATA members are encouraged to nominate potential recipients by considering the following criteria:

The recipient will have made a significant contribution to the advocacy of Visual Art Education in Queensland.
The recipient will be a role model within the profession.

An individual need only be nominated once to be considered. The number of nominations received per nominee bears no weight in their selection.
