2026 Queensland Ballet Community Classes: Fraser Coast
Description
Queensland Ballet’s Community, Education and Dance Health team are delighted to be partnering with The Brolga Theatre again in 2026 to move with the Fraser Coast Community.
Join Queensland Ballet for a range of inspiring community dance experiences for all ages and abilities. From first-time movers to experienced dancers, our welcoming one-off sessions offer opportunities to explore ballet technique, Queensland Ballet repertoire and ballet-inspired movement in a fun, supportive and inclusive environment.
These workshops are an initiative of the Brolga Theatre and Queensland Ballet and are supported by the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF). RADF is a partnership between the Queensland Government and Fraser Coast Regional Council to support local arts and culture in regional Queensland.
We sincerely thank Sparks Dance Centre for hosting our classes again this year.

FAQs
- Can I watch my child during the class?
To help create a focused and engaging learning environment, it is generally requested that parents and carers wait outside of the dance studio. Children often participate more confidently and independently when they are fully immersed in the experience. We are happy to discuss this in person with you.
You are welcome to wait nearby, and a Queensland Ballet Teaching Artist or staff member can contact you if required.
- Can parents or carers leave the venue during the class?
Yes. Parents and carers are welcome to leave and return at the scheduled finish time, provided Queensland Ballet has current emergency contact details for the participant.
Please ensure participants are comfortable remaining independently in the class setting before leaving the venue.
- I'm a local ballet teacher. Can I observe the class for professional development?
We appreciate the interest of local dance educators and hope to meet you when we travel to your local area. To ensure participants feel comfortable exploring and learning in a supportive environment, observation is generally not available during youth workshops.
Where suitable, local teachers are warmly invited to participate in our Adult or Advanced Community Classes and engage directly with our Teaching Artists.
- I attend a different dance studio to the host venue. Can I still participate?
Absolutely. These Community Classes are open to all.
We are grateful to our host venues for supporting these opportunities through the provision of studio space, helping us make dance experiences accessible to the wider community.
- Do I/does my child need previous dance experience?
Not at all. Most of our Community Classes are designed for participants of all experience levels. Please refer to the individual class description for any age, experience, or skill requirements.
- My child is slightly younger or older than the advertised age range. Can they still participate?
Our age recommendations are designed to ensure participants enjoy a developmentally appropriate experience alongside their peers. If your child falls outside the advertised age range and you would like them to participate, please contact Queensland Ballet before booking so we can discuss the most suitable class option. We recognise that you, or your dance teacher, are best placed to decide on a class that suits the ability and training of your child.
- What should participants wear?
Comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement is recommended. Dancewear is welcome but not required unless specified in the class information. Participants should bring a water bottle, and ensure longer hair it tied back from the face.
- What happens if my child is nervous?
This is very common, particularly for younger participants. Our Teaching Artists are experienced in working with children and creating a welcoming, inclusive environment where everyone can participate at their own pace. Parents and carers are encouraged to stay onsite in waiting areas to be close by should their encouragement be required during a class.
- Can siblings or family members stay in the studio during class time?
To minimise distractions and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants, only registered participants may enter the studio unless otherwise advised by Queensland Ballet staff.
- What if my child has additional support, access, or medical requirements?
Please provide relevant information during registration so we can work with you to support your child's participation. If you would like to discuss specific requirements before booking, please contact us directly via education@queenslandballet.com.au
- Can I book more than one class?
Absolutely! Participants are welcome to register for multiple classes where they meet the age or experience requirements for each session.
- What if a class is full?
If a class reaches capacity, you may join the waitlist. Should a place become available, Queensland Ballet will contact participants in order of registration.
- What is your cancellation and refund policy?
Please refer to the Terms and Conditions available during registration for full details regarding cancellations, transfers, and refunds.
- Will photographs or video be taken?
Queensland Ballet may occasionally capture photographs or video for promotional and reporting purposes, but never without consent. Any media consent requirements will be communicated during the registration process.
- Will participants perform for family and friends at the end of the workshop?
Often, yes. Where appropriate, participants may have the opportunity to share some of what they have explored during the session. If we plan to invite parents, carers, or family members into the studio to view the outcome of the workshop, our Teaching Artist will let participants know at the beginning of the class. Typically, any sharing takes place during the final 5 minutes of the session.
- How does Queensland Ballet support child safety?
Queensland Ballet is committed to providing a safe, inclusive and supportive environment for all children and young people participating in our programs.
In line with Queensland's Child Safe Organisations framework, we are committed to promoting the safety, wellbeing and participation of children and young people in all aspects of our work. Our policies, practices and culture are guided by the Child Safe Standards, which place children's rights, safety and wellbeing at the centre of program delivery.
Our Teaching Artists and staff are trained in child-safe practices, and all personnel working with children hold the appropriate screening and clearances required by Queensland legislation. We encourage children, young people, parents and carers to speak up about any concerns and are committed to responding appropriately and respectfully.
If you have any questions about child safety, accessibility, wellbeing or support requirements, please contact Queensland Ballet prior to the program.

We cannot wait for Queensland Ballet company come to our town to spread love of ballet in the community more often. Thank you!
More of these please!
Class was beautiful. Teacher was excellent. Would love to have access to activities like this regularly.
Thank you so much for coming to regional Qld! Our kids don’t always get the same opportunities as kids living in cities might, but we really appreciate when you visit - so inspiring and encouraging.
Absolutely love the opportunity to have my girls experience ballet without the ongoing commitment. The classes were engaging and age appropriate. The dance teachers were wonderful with the children.
Fantastic opportunity... such a worthwhile initiative to support in regional areas
Both teacher and assistant were fantastic and engaged all the girls really well. The girls all found their lesson fun.
I thoroughly enjoyed my class. I haven't done ballet classes for over 50 years and forgot how beautiful it feels. I think I stretched every muscle in my body and I walked away energised and happy
