The meeting will start at 11:30 am, with a lunch provided. The presentation will start at 12:00 pm. The seminar can also be attended online through Zoom from 12:00 pm.
The seminar is entitled ‘Bias, blind spots and blockages: insights into the state of Australian heavy vehicle road safety data’. The National Truck Accident Research Centre (NTARC) has reported on trends in Australian Heavy Vehicle road safety for over 20 years using data from heavy motor insurance. Hear from Adam Gibson, the NTARC Research manager on what that data shows, it's blindspots and learnings from working across government, the transport industry and academia.
Marcus Cosgrove from the National Road Freighters Association will also provide his perspective, on recent data, with a focus on driver distraction, which has increased after the implementation of digital technology in trucks and use of digital social media platforms been used by truck drivers whilst operating a truck.
Adam Gibson is the Research Manager for NTARC. Based in NTI’s Head Office, Adam brings an independent view to a customer’s issues and their business. He believes that the industry’s number one priority is getting people home safely, and he’s passionate about the ongoing improvements in productivity in transport. With 11 years’ experience in the industry, having held previous positions as a specialist heavy vehicle engineer, a Project Manager within the NHVR, and a having a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering, he is a definite truck nerd. Adam also authors NTI’s NTARC Major Accident Report which analyses trends in truck safety based on analysis of NTI’s extensive claims data.
Marcus Cosgrove has long been a B/Double truck driver who has obtained in 2023 a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and a certificate IV in work health and safety. He is passionate about going to work and returning home safely, and is using his qualifications to support making this dream a reality. He has also become a Mental Health Advocate that is support by several well known organisations. As there is so much more work to be done in heavy vehicle safety, he is working on making industry leaders look at ways to make the lives of truck drivers more enjoyable and safe.
The seminar will be followed by the Queensland Chapter committee meeting.
