QSA Talks: A conversation with Archie Moore
Event description
With Ellie Buttrose (Curator, QAGOMA) and Callan Murray (Research Officer, First Nations Strategy, Queensland State Archives)
Queensland State Archives is honoured to host a special conversation with renowned Kamilaroi/Bigambul artist Archie Moore, whose exhibition kith and kin won the prestigious Golden Lion for Best National Participation at the 2024 Venice Biennale.
Joining Archie in conversation are Ellie Buttrose, the curator of kith and kin, and Callan Murray, Research Officer (First Nations Strategy) at QSA. Together, they will discuss the making of this landmark exhibition—opening at QAGOMA on 27 September 2025—including its deep connection to archival research, First Nations deaths in custody and intergenerational storytelling. Exploring over 65,000 years of Aboriginal history, kith and kin powerfully maps familial and national memory. This talk offers a rare opportunity to hear first-hand about the conceptual development of the work, the use of QSA records, and the impact of colonisation on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, as expressed through art.
