    Event description

    QUADRANT v2.0

    a dadageek quadraphonic spectacular

Join us in an evening of auditory exploration as we present the second iteration of QUADRANT – a quadraphonic electronic music experience that explores spatial sound performance and realtime video art. Quadraphonic sound, or sound that emanates from 4 speakers surrounding the listener, greatly expands the possibilities for immersive electronic music performances beyond the ordinary. For QUADRANT v2.0, each artist has designed a performance that activates dadaLab's 4-channel spatial audio system for a uniquely immersive sonic experience. Prepare for compositions that challenge convention, transcend stereo, and envelop your senses.

Very limited tickets are available to ensure an optimal listening experience for all attendees.

    Artists

    James Connolly

James Connolly is a Chicago-based artist, educator, museum worker, and archivist. His videos, open-source tools, and real-time audio/video performances undermine the interfaces and break through the algorithms of digital and analog systems, examining hidden power structures and liberating latent aesthetic materialities in cathartic and captivating compositions. He is an Associate Professor, Adjunct in the Film, Video, New Media, and Animation department at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

    pulseCoder

pulseCoder is the electronic music project from new media artist and sound designer Kyle Evans. The project crosses deep modular synthesis textures and rhythms with chaotic digital glitch aesthetics. Drawing influence from IDM, house, and experimental genres like power electronics and glitch, pulseCoder dives deep into the precarious territory between music and noise. The result is a dark and moody crossover fluctuating between structure and entropy, simulating a controlled collapse into chaos. This output manifests in the form of physical & digital sonic releases (Holodeck Records, Shadowtrash Tape Group), experimental video releases, and immersive audio/visual performances.

    Gentlebutterfly

Dave Pavkovic is a fierce and free drummer, composer, and co-leader of a number of progressive music ventures like Actual Music and Every Shape a Diamond. His wild drumming in and around the groove is a pointillistic flurry that keeps you off-balance and rocking with corporeal abandon. Now, Pavkovic applies the same transcendental sensibility to immersive, deep-listening electronic productions, with disorienting, heavily altered samples from mid-Twentieth Century films. Dubbed Gentlebutterfly, the project explores the rhythmic and algorithmic detritus of some kind of pre-conscious dreamstate. Vocoder voices, words and retro-futurist synth styles swirl and trip about like mushroom tea before bedtime.

    HEXSEQ

Hexseq (Austin, TX) is an American artist, composer, and music producer based in Austin, TX. His works deal with themes such as desolation and hopelessness and possess a pronounced dark tone. He works in several areas of sound production including, spatial audio, modular synthesis, field recording, sampling, and live performance.
