Qualitative Data Analysis: Me, the data and theory
Event description
This workshop introduces a simple and practical framework that helps address one some the key challenges in qualitative analysis:
How can I be reflexive without over-doing the navel-gazing and losing focus on the research?
How can I balance listening to the data and what people have to say (grounded aspects) with what past research and my theoretical framework tell me I should be looking for (a priori aspects)?
How can I achieve the lovely-sounding but elusive feature of progressive focusing in my analysis?
The framework upon which this workshop is based has been used by hundreds of researchers in many disciplines, and can help regain control over unruly analysis, re-start when you’re stalled – while also allowing for playfulness and emergence. It sets us up nicely for tales of the unexpected – a key theme in our workshop series in 2024.
This is the 2nd workshop in the Qualitative Data Analysis series for 2024, led by Dr Nick Hopwood and Dr Erin Turbitt. It will be held both online and in-person, and it may be recorded.
