Queensland Trauma Symposium
The Queensland Trauma Symposium returns in August 2026, co-hosted by the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) Trauma Service and Jamieson Trauma Institute. This event brings together clinicians, researchers, and trauma care leaders at the RBWH Education Centre for two days of multidisciplinary learning and collaboration.
This year’s program features a full day of pre‑symposium workshops offering multiple specialised sessions to choose from, followed by a comprehensive, full‑day symposium. Together, the two components create an immersive learning experience that blends small group learning and skills development with broader discussions and presentations.
This premier event is designed for health professionals across the trauma spectrum, including Pre‑Hospital and Retrieval Medicine, Emergency, Intensive Care, Surgery, Military and Disaster response, Nursing, Allied Health, and Research.
Local and national experts will converge to share insights, challenge current thinking, and explore the evolving landscape of trauma care. Through presentations, panel discussions, and interactive sessions, delegates will examine contemporary practice, debate emerging issues, and consider the future of trauma systems in Queensland and beyond.
The Symposium event offers a valuable opportunity for trauma care providers to connect across disciplines, strengthen professional networks, and contribute to improving outcomes for injured patients throughout the state.

Kenneth Jamieson Lecture
A key feature of this year’s event will be the Kenneth Jamieson Lecture, held on Thursday, 20 August 2026, at 5:15 pm in the RBWH Education Centre Auditorium. This portion of the event is open to all registered Symposium attendees, as well as guests who wish to attend only the Kenneth Jamieson Lecture. Attendance is free; however, we kindly ask all guests to confirm their attendance by selecting the relevant option for catering purposes.
Call for Abstracts
The Queensland Trauma Symposium Organising Committee invites you to submit abstracts for consideration for oral presentations at the 2026 Queensland Trauma Symposium.
All submitted abstracts will be peer reviewed and scored, with the highest‑scoring abstracts selected for a 5 or 10‑minute oral presentation on Friday, 21 August 2026.
Abstracts will need to be submitted to QLDTraumaSymposium@health.qld.gov.au by COB Friday 3rd July 2026.

Completed abstracts must be submitted by email to QLDTraumaSymposium@health.qld.gov.au
Notification of accepted abstracts
You will be notified by email by Friday 31st July 2026 whether your abstract has been accepted for oral presentation.
Once successful notification has been made, you must confirm your attendance with the Organising Committee and pay the appropriate registration fee by Monday 3rd August 2026.
If successful, you will need to submit a 50-word biography for the presenting author by Monday 3rd August 2026.
A timetable for oral presentations will be available closer to the symposium date.
The Organising Committee reserves the right to reject unsuitable abstracts.
Workshops - Thursday 20 August
The 2026 event will feature two exciting workshops, each with limited places.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Delegates may only register for workshops if they are attending the symposium and have purchased a symposium ticket. Workshop‑only attendance may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis closer to the event, and a fee will apply. Please contact us at QLDTraumaSymposium@health.qld.gov.au for more information.

Trauma Care Project Pitch & Expert Feedback Forum (This workshop has been postponed)
Thursday 20th August 2026
8:30am – 12pm
Venue: Frazer Institute Auditorium (formerly UQCCR Auditorium) RBWH Campus
Hosted by the Jamieson Trauma Institute (JTI), this forum is designed so participants can pitch a project idea in a supportive environment to both their peers and a panel of project advisors. The project ideas may be research, education or quality improvement initiatives and may be a project you have already developed or one which is still in the very early stages. Unlike a grant round, this session does not allocate funding or create competition for a financial pool; instead, its purpose is to provide structured exposure, constructive feedback, and insight into what makes a project compelling, viable and fundable. By engaging with genuine stakeholders and applying clear criteria, the forum aims to build capability, strengthen networks, and support the development of high‑quality, impactful project ideas. The individual/team who presents the pitch which is deemed the most viable and valuable from our panel of project advisors will have the opportunity to further engage with the JTI team and affiliates to grow their project concept further should they wish to.

Target Audience
Medical/nursing/allied health practitioners with an interest in developing their research/quality improvement project skills. Rural colleagues encouraged to attend/pitch their project idea.

Beyond the Hospital - modern trauma care for Queenslanders
Thursday 20th August 2026

Venue: RBWH Education Centre
For trauma patients, transitioning from acute hospital care back into the community can be daunting and complex, often requiring coordinated input from multiple community-based services. This bespoke workshop aims to refresh and enhance the skills of community service providers involved in the ongoing care of trauma patients following hospital discharge.
Attendees will gain an understanding of common mechanisms of injury and injury patterns, typical treatment pathways, and most importantly, key areas requiring monitoring and follow‑up in the community setting. The workshop also provides an opportunity for community teams to build relationships and strengthen networks with inpatient trauma services, supporting improved continuity and transition of care.
Target Audience
This workshop is suited to General Practitioners seeking to refresh their critical care knowledge and enhance their confidence in caring for trauma patients. We also welcome regional and rural clinicians involved in the step‑down care of patients returning to their local catchment areas, as well as community‑based nursing and allied health professionals supporting ongoing recovery.

Queensland Trauma Education

QTE is a one-day interprofessional workshop designed to engage clinicians focussing on trauma reception and management of the multiply injured patient and covers concepts including teamwork, role of structured assessment, management of haemorrhage, obstructive shock and neuroprotection for severe traumatic brain injury.
Previous course participants have highlighted the group training, focus on local team-based approach, hands-on skill practice and understanding the Queensland Trauma system as strengths of the workshop.
The course develops the clinician’s knowledge and skills through small group discussion, procedural skills stations for common trauma interventions and immersive scenarios.
Target Audience:
Medical, nursing and allied health clinicians who are involved in the acute care of the injured.
This course is accredited with ACEM for 8 hours CPD (including airway, breathing and essential emergency medicine procedural skills) and ACCRRM for 6.75 CPD hours.
Participants need at least 2 years of clinical experience to attend the course.

Registration fees are as follows (all ticket prices are in AUD and subject to booking fees):

- Will there be any social events for participants?
Yes, following the Kenneth Jamieson Lecture on Thursday, 20 August, there will be a networking session with canapés and drinks. We warmly invite all attendees to join us.
- Is virtual attendance available?
This symposium will be held exclusively as an in-person event for delegates. All faculty, invited speakers, and sponsors will be present onsite, creating a unique environment for meaningful collaboration and networking that extends well beyond the sessions themselves.
- Are the workshops and symposium catered?
Yes, this event is fully catered with morning tea, lunch and afternoon tea included in your registration. Please note that the half‑day workshops will not include lunch.
