Description

Queer Contexts 2026 is the second biennial conference of the Australasian Queer Research Network (AQuRN), formerly the LGBTIQA+ Research Network. The event aims to bring together researchers across Australia, Aotearoa New Zealand and the region working within queer contexts. The conference aims to share leading queer research, creative practice and activism being undertaken within and beyond our region today across a range of disciplines to facilitate cross-disciplinary dialogue.

The conference will run from the morning of Monday 7th December to the afternoon of Tuesday 8th December. A film screening and pre-conference social event will be held at 4:30pm Sunday 6th December and a queer rave of sorts on the evening of the 8th December - so plan to stay in Auckland that night if you can!

We are delighted to announce our two keynote presentations for Queer Contexts 2026:

Moana Murray and Te Aorere Ngātai-Tautuku

The call coming from within the whare (pora): genderqueer mokopuna, Māori weaving and taonga tuku iho

Susan Dion and Carla Rice

Two-Spirit Elder Storywork
