MYST is excited to announce that they will be hosting a series of free monthly Queer Movie Night events for local LGBTQIA young people 12-17yrs old and their friends. Movies will be a range of classic and new films which will address some issues that are relevant to you.

Movies will be shown on our new large screen and you can relax and watch the movie in comfortable loungers while snacking on classic movie snacks.

This will be a safe and inclusive space and there will be opportunity for discussion after the movie.

From 5:00pm for a 5:30pm start. Finishing around 8.30pm

2nd June- Stephan Universe The Movie, (PG) on Stan 1h 22m

Two years have passed since Steven Universe resolved the ongoing conflict between Earth and the Diamonds and brought peace to the galaxy, seemingly allowing Steven and the Crystal Gems to live happily ever after. Its story follows American skateboarder Leo Baker and details his journey and struggles during his career due to being a trans man. The film premiered at the 2022 Outfest Los Angeles LGBTQ+ Film Festival on 21st July 2022 where it won the audience award for documentary feature.

6th Oct- Girl like you, (M) Netflix 1h

When Lauren first saw L smashing out the drums on stage, with smudged eyeliner, knotted hair, and ripped jeans, she fell in love. L had been open about identifying as transgender but was still physically presenting as male and certain they'd stay that way. Six months into their relationship, L tells Lauren that they want to medically transition genders, change pronouns from He too She, and become Elle. Over six years, we watch a couple desperate to stay together, as they navigate the effects of new body parts, changing gender roles as well as battling their own evolving sexual identities. Girl, Like You uses the dramatic reality of changing genders while in a relationship to explore the larger thematic questions of the fluidity of gender and sexual identity, and the self-sacrifice required to nurture a lover through life.
