Queer Torah: Lech Lecha and the Journey into the Unknown

A journey to better understand and appreciate queerness, whether your own or someone else’s, can be a mindset shift and a journey into the unknown. The Torah gives us examples of such journeys, such as when Abram is commanded “lech lecha” – “go forth” – and to leave his native land to go out into the wilderness. In this workshop, participants will develop a Jewish foundation for responding to uncertainty that helps reframe big shifts in their lives as sacred journeys. This learning and discussion session is open to anyone, regardless of one’s proximity to LGBTQ+ identity; we all experience journeys of transition and can all lean on Torah to make sense of them.

Sarah Mamlet is Keshet’s Operations Manager, where she brings her values of harmony, community-building, and justice to the organization. Her work focuses on internal systems, supporting her colleagues with logistics and technology, and ensuring Keshet’s smooth day-to-day operations. Sarah has a background in electoral and community organizing, with experience as an organizer for progressive local, state, and national campaigns. Sarah graduated from Vassar College, with a major in psychology and minors in math and Jewish studies, and will be pursuing an MSW at Simmons this fall. Outside of work, Sarah enjoys singing, traveling, reading too many novels, and trying to pet every dog in the greater Boston area.

Who are these classes for?

Our classes are for everyone—whether you’re brand new to the topic or have been engaging with it for years, we encourage participation from people of all backgrounds, identities, and experience levels. Why are there tickets at different prices?

Our tickets utilize a Pay-What-You-Can model so attendees can pay a range of prices based on what they are able to pay to allow for greater accessibility. Please select the price point that feels right for you.

Can I eat during class?
