Jump on board the Big Lift Bus!

We are a student-run, QUT Guild-affiliated, volunteer group that encourages students and alumni of all ages and disciplines to pay it forward by uplifting the people and communities around us. Everyone is welcome including non-QUT students.

Our key aims are:
- to build positive relationships with regional communities;
- to support and enact needs-based volunteer projects;
- to foster student development; and
- to practice respect for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island Peoples as the Traditional Custodians of the land we live on.

Twice a year, we take a busload of students on a week-long road trip to Queensland regional and rural towns such as Cherbourg, Eidsvold, Taroom and many others. We participate in needs-based volunteer projects in these towns whilst learning about the community by engaging with the people and listening to their stories. Throughout the year, we also have some amazing experiences with volunteer projects within Brisbane, social events on and off campus, and even a tradition of ‘Mini-Lifts’ over weekends. The aim of these road trips and events is to lend a hand in uplifting the communities not only through volunteer projects but most importantly through self-education on regional and Indigenous Australian values and the issues that affect these communities.
