QVWC x Open House Weekend - Weaving Workshop
Event description
Creative Resilience recognises First Nations women—past and present, known or unknown. The 4.6-metre-high public artwork was created by Ngardang Girri Kalat Mimini (NGKM), a Victorian group of First Nations Women artists. Claiming space at the front of the Queen Victoria Women’s Centre, this work celebrates and commemorates First Nations women artists and craftspeople. The NGKM artists have created a work that pays tribute to their heritage of continuous creativity and ingenuity in support of communities and cultural survival.
QVWC and NGKM artists will host a weaving workshop from 1pm-4pm in Wayi Djerring, Level 4. There will also be an exhibition about the development, production and launch of Creative Resilience in our ground floor Birnbeal exhibition space.
Wayi Djerring, Level 4 and Millarri Murnmut, Level 5 (our secret rooftop) will be open for viewing, with a display of historical photos, images and references to the history of the building. All spaces will be open from 9am-5pm. The QVWC SHOP will have offers for visitors on the day.
