Travel instructions

If travelling on train or bus, the National Library is a 5 minute walk from the Wellington train and bus station – just head up Mulgrave or Molesworth Street (Aitken Street intersects both streets). If you are travelling from the Hutt via car, take the Murphy Street exit. The Library’s address is 70 Molesworth Street, Thorndon.

Entry instructions

Enter through the Library’s Aitken Street entrance.

Hazards

The new Archives building is under construction next to the Library, with a lot of activity on Aitken Street. Please be vigilant of heavy vehicles driving down this street as you arrive and depart. Use the crossing at the corner of Aitken and Molesworth Street.

Toilet location

Toilets are located immediately to the left as you enter from Aitken Street.

Accessible parking

There are a few Wilson parking lots close to the Library - St. Paul Cathedral across the road (21-57 Molesworth Street), Pipitea Marae (47 Thorndon Quay), Mulgrave Street (48), and Hill Street (22-28). There are council parking spaces on Aitken, Mulgrave and Molesworth Street, but they have a 2 hour time limit before needing to be renewed.
