R Exchange 2024

This event has passed Register

Event description

For the fourth year running, we are providing a regional opportunity to the data science community to discuss and learn from others how to make the most out of R in your organisation and projects – from research to corporate to public sector. If you haven’t worked with R and other open-source tools yet, get inspired by what can be done.

R Exchange aims to showcase how organisations are using R to visualise insights, optimise workflows and scale up your data products for production to better connect data with decision-making and to align your data insights with your strategic goals. Not using open-source tools yet? Often organisations complement proprietary products with open-source tools to tackle the most difficult questions in their organisation, and to provide their analysts and data scientist with the flexibility they need for their work.

Whether you're taking first steps or already are an expert, our diverse programme caters for different levels of interest. Meet with fellow open-source enthusiasts to connect and learn about best practices and what is new in the open-source data science and analytics world.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact us events@epi-interactive.com and keep up-to-date on the latest announcements via LinkedIn and our newsletter.

Speakers

Our full-day conference on Thursday 8 May, will feature keynotes, presentations, and a panel discussion about enabling open-source data science and analytics. Speakers will showcase real-world examples and experiences which will help you get the most out of freely available tools and link into powerful features such as R Shiny dashboards or Quarto reports.

A detailed programme will be published in January 2024. Explore the 2023 programme here to see what R Exchange is all about.

Invited talks from the following organisations are already confirmed:

  • High Performance Sport, New Zealand
  • The Pirbright Institute, UK
  • Compass Polling, Australia
  • Posit, USA
  • HPCNow!, New Zealand / Spain

Pre-event workshop

This year we will also be hosting a pre-event workshop on Wednesday, 8 May.

R Shiny in Production

Facilitators: Nick Snellgrove (Tech Lead, Epi-interactive), Ieuan Jenkins (DevOps Engineer, Epi-interactive) & Dr Stefan Schliebs (Senior Data Scientist, Air New Zealand)

Where & When: National Library of New Zealand; 9-5pm Wednesday 8 May 2024

Why this workshop?
Taking your R Shiny app from an analytical idea or research output to a fully operational piece of software accessed by many users can be highly frustrating and is often where things fall short despite skill and enthusiasm. Core reason is that additional skillsets are required that draw from software engineering (or DevOps) practices to develop truly high-performing and professional-grade apps that meet requirements of a professional context. Interesting to close this gap and progress your R Shiny skills? Then this workshop is for you!

Who Should attend:
This training will dive deep into the tools and techniques available to take your R Shiny applications from good to great. This includes topics like, code modularisation, performance tuning, testing strategies, security and linking to various data sources.

You may already have some R Shiny applications in the works and want some guidance on how to take them to the next level. Potentially you have some upcoming projects where you consider using R Shiny and you want to ensure you have a strong understanding of the possibilities. If so, then this workshop is for you!

This workshop does assume familiarity with R and prior experience with R Shiny, either acquired on your own or through attending our Introduction or Advanced R Shiny Masterclass, which will be offered online in early 2024.

If you are unsure if this class is for you, please don’t hesitate to reach out to our team to discuss – events@epi-interactive.com
