Event description

Roused At! x Trainwreck join forces once again to bring you:

aya (live) [UK] @ echo&bounce
w/ special guests: Neesha Alexander / Fatshaudi / Isadora Chadeaux / Lil Ket + Sidney Phillips [live]
aya is our bittersweetheart from the North of England. Under the LOFT pseudonym, she attracted global acclaim for her fwd-thinking club inversions that juxtaposed the British addiction to breaks 'n bass with critical, self-sluicing logic and untethered abstraction. Self-proclaimed First Lady of the Bootleg, she has released on Tri Angle Record, Astral Plane Recordings and Wisdom Teeth.

In her work, aya explores the potency of metamorphic memory to resonate within the dysphoric muteness of everyday normativity and restore curious senses to the vacuous body.

Her sound leaves traces evocative of intimate bedrooms, energetic clubs and grandiose concert halls fusing together and opening up to a negative space of entirely new dimensions. She confronts her audience with a reverse-trap door of endearing cheekiness, she demystifies the stage-craft of tired and alienating theatrics, infusing her work with self-reflective antics that tenderly tie together an inner and collective experience.

On her critically acclaimed debut album ‘im hole’ [Hyperdub], aya threads raw autobiographical vignettes, contorting language, dialect, gender, and sexuality together with bursts of rhythm, noise and aural goop. Lured in by her MC-ing, her live mixes are a voyeuristic peering into a funhouse mirror of her monthly radio residency with NTS. Like a Shepard tone with no discernible end, we’re bound by the infinitely arising possibilities of aya’s presence.
