The Rabbi in the Mosque: a Jew reaches out to the Muslim world
Join Jerusalem-based Rabbi Elhanan Miller whose animated Arabic videos are reaching millions of viewers across the Middle East. Launched in 2017, his People of the Book initiative today has over 350 videos connecting Jews and Arabs, breaking down barriers by better understanding one another. His only Sydney public event will explore the unexpected challenges and opportunities that he has found connecting conflicting parties through religion.
The event is co-hosted by Limmud-Oz Sydney and Plus 61J Media.
Rabbi Elhanan Miller is a research fellow at the Shalom Hartman Institute in Jerusalem. Rabbi Miller is the founding editor of People of the Book, an online initiative geared at teaching Jewish faith, culture and history to Muslim audiences, and active in Rabbis for Human Rights and The Forum for Regional Thinking, an Arab-Jewish think tank in Israel. An Arabic specialist, Miller regularly lectures on Middle East politics, the Arab-Israeli conflict, and Jewish-Muslim relations and writes for Plus61J Media.
Lynda Ben-Menashe is a passionate builder of social capital who has worked in education, publishing and public diplomacy. She has served the Australian Jewish community for the past 15 years through organisations including the Executive Council of Australian Jewry, the National Council of Jewish Women and the NSW Jewish Board of Deputies, where she was Head of Engagement, responsible for developing and nurturing the strategic relationships between the Jewish and wider communities. She now works as a strategic consultant to a wide range of multicultural communities.
Tickets include light kosher refreshments and tea and coffee which will be available from 7:15pm, the event will formally start at 7:30pm.
