“From seeking peace to administering to the bereaved: A reflection on October 7 and how harmony could be restored.”
Rabbi Yael Vurgan is an Israeli native who grew up in a secular family. She studied Jewish thought and Hebrew literature at the Hebrew University, and has an MA in Contemporary Judaism. Since being ordained in 2018 by HUC Jerusalem, Rabbi Vurgan has been serving as the regional rabbi in the Shaar HaNegev Regional Council. She looks after the spiritual needs of ten kibbutzim near the Gaza border and has actively participated in peace and coexistence initiatives. Until October 7 she referred to herself as the "happiest rabbi in the world”, but since then, her workload and perspectives have changed significantly.
