Rag rug weaving workshop
Description
Upcycle, and give new life to worn-out fabric with artist Bronwen Whyatt.
In this three-hour workshop, you’ll transform old fabric scraps into a beautiful handwoven rug – a perfect way to add a touch of creativity and sustainability to your space.
Bronwen will show you:
how to start weaving
how to cut fabric to the right size for weaving (depending on the weight and texture)
techniques for joining new fabric pieces seamlessly
how to expand the rug to any size
Bring along old jeans, cotton, linen, polyester, wind-cheaters, sheets or pillowcases – almost anything can be woven into something wonderful.
About the artist
Bronwen Whyatt is an Adelaide Hills visual artist whose creative practice began in her grandmother’s sewing room, where she first explored textiles. Drawing on reclaimed fabrics in striking colour palettes, her quilts evoke a sense of nostalgia while reinterpreting materials from decades past. More recently she has expanded her textile work to include finely crafted, handwoven rag rugs made from repurposed materials.
