Sun print and stitch

Discover the magic of sun printing with paper artist Ellen Schlobohm

Join Ellen for this slow making workshop where you will connect with nature through the art of cyanotypes, aka sun prints. This camera-free photography technique merges science and art to create ethereal images with distinctive blue hues.

Using pre-coated paper, Ellen will guide you through the composition and design aspects, using a variety of materials such as pressed flowers, plants, feathers and lace to create your photograms.

You will make several prints and in the second half of the workshop spend some time embellishing some of them with simple embroidery stitches.

The workshop offers a tranquil setting for creative exploration as you develop your prints under the spring sun and embrace the rhythm of stitching.

About the workshop facilitator

Ellen Schlobohm is a paper artist, printmaker and designer whose practice is driven by an interest in slow making and their meditative qualities, inviting a deeper engagement with form, texture and light. Influenced by natural forms, my cyanotypes and hand-cut paper artworks encourage viewers to pause and reflect on the subtleties of everyday environments and the layers of collective memory they hold. Ellen has been teaching workshops for the past decade and delights in sharing her skills with others and helping people be creative.

Other things you need to know

• The workshop fee covers all materials, but you can bring personal botanical items or lace to use in your prints. Ellen recommends thinner, pressed specimens for the clearest prints, but fresh plants can also be used.

• Suitable for participants at all skill levels, 15 years and older.

• Wear art workshop appropriate clothing.

• Bring a hat and sunscreen as we will be spending some time in the sun in order to develop the prints.

• Bring your own optional snacks. Tea and coffee provided.
