Scraplings - create soft sculpture monsters

Join artist Maggie Moy on this fun and creative adventure where you will repurpose fabric, woollen blankets, buttons and other materials to create soft sculpture monsters we are lovingly referred to as Scraplings.

For this 5-hour workshop you will receive a special package with preloved fabrics, enough to create 2 Scrapling monsters (one to take home and work on after the workshop).

To commemorate Lobethal's historic Onkaparinga Woollen Mill (this is the famous factory that FABRIK is based on), each package contains a special swatch of Onkaparinga blankets to construct your monster.

The body of the monster will be precut, and other scraps will be included to add your own twist if you want to add ears, faces, pockets, tails or horns. 

You don't need to be an expert stitcher because basic beginner sewing skills are all that is required.

Monsters don’t strive for perfection; they celebrate loose ends and wonky stitches to come ‘alive’. 

At the end of the afternoon, you will take home a completed bespoke soft sculpture Scrapling. Handsewn with quirky individual details, each one unique and personalised by you. 

About the artist: Maggie Moy is a multi-medium artist working between fabric, stitch, ceramics and abstract art. Moy graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Art (Honours) in 2014. She has been fortunate enough to receive a scholarship to attend a ceramic residency in Jingdezhen in China, has taught painting workshops in Far North Queensland for Aboriginal schools and Communities. She is a studio member of Collective Haunt in Norwood, an artist run initiative. 

What you need to know

• We provide all materials and equipment

• Suitable for participants at any skill level and who are 18 years and older

• Wear suitable art friendly clothing

• Bring your own snacks / lunch. We provide tea and coffee.
