Hand stitch a textile pot

Immerse yourself in the slow stitching of a fabric pot with artist Leanne Gardner.

Using fabric scraps, threads and notions with an emphasis on the relaxing creative process of slow stitch, learn to layer fabric and use hand stitching to create a small unique fabric pot.

There are no right or wrong ways to stitch.

Simply relax and enjoy the process of discovering your own creativity and the experience of making something from the supplies you have at hand.

You will leave with your own fabric pot, either completed or with the knowledge to complete at home.

This is a beautiful opportunity to slow down and connect your head, heart and hands.

About the artist

Leanne is a mixed‑media artist who embraces the freedom and flexibility that an intuitive, materials‑led practice offers. Predominantly self‑taught, she has spent the past seven years completing residential workshops with artists from around the world. These experiences have given her a broad and adaptable skill set, which she weaves into her work.

Drawn to working small and with repurposed materials, Leanne gravitates toward textiles, fibre, paper, and stitch. Her colour palette often returns to familiar, grounding tones, yet her pieces remain diverse as she continually explores new mediums, processes, and ideas. Sustainability, resourcefulness, and the quiet beauty of the handmade sit at the heart of her practice.

Leanne’s work continues to evolve through experimentation, community engagement, and a deep commitment to encouraging creativity in others. Supporting people of all skill levels to explore their own artistic voice is one of the most rewarding aspects of her work.

What you need to know

• We provide all materials and equipment, however you are welcome to bring any favourite small fabric scraps, lace, threads (embroidery, wool) to use.

• Suitable for participants at any skill level and who are 17 years and older

• Wear suitable art friendly clothing

• Bring your own snacks / lunch. We provide tea and coffee.

• If your circumstances change and you can no longer attend this workshop, please email nvouis@ahc.sa.gov.au before 5pm, Thursday 17 September 2026. After this time and date, we cannot issue refunds.
