RAIN, NOT THUNDER, FEED BLOOMS

Rain as a portal, lightning as a key, and sprouts as the consequence of tenderness.

One thing becomes another, self-nourishing, contracting and expanding in a dance where there is no mistake, only transformation.

Expose oneself to nature and sweetness as a ritual act.

Let thunder roll to discover that what makes us grow is not the impact but the gentleness.

The event brings together live ambient and experimental music, visual works, meditation and tarot, creating a shared space for slow attention, listening and reflection. Rather than a loud or overwhelming experience, the night invites softness, care and subtle transformation — like rain that nourishes the ground instead of thunder that breaks it.

Through sound, visual art and embodied practices, the event explores cycles of growth, rest and regeneration. Each contribution unfolds gently, allowing time for transition, silence and connection between works.

This is a space to arrive, to stay with what is present, and to let things bloom in their own time.

Exhibiting artists

1) Nick Miller - IG @nrmillen

Born in Melbourne, Australia (1987)

Nick Millen is a Melbourne-based artist working across painting, sculpture and installation. His early practice emerged from performance and video, later expanding into large-scale, site-responsive sculptural works presented in public and gallery spaces.

Following extensive research and residencies across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and the United States, Millen’s practice shifted toward painterly abstraction, with a growing interest in material histories, architecture and iconoclasm. His current work treats paint as both image and object, fusing architectural, infrastructural and painterly materials into abstract mosaics and immersive installations.

Millen completed a Master of Fine Arts at the Victorian College of the Arts in 2022 and has exhibited widely in Australia and internationally.

2) Wenmiao Xin - IG @wenmiao_xin

Wenmiao Xin is a Chinese photographer and visual artist based in Naarm Melbourne, Australia. Drawing from her upbringing in the East and experiences in Western cultures, she blends these influences through vibrant color and personal expression. Through photography, she explores intimacy, identity, and emotion, creating images that reflect lived experience and the interplay of cultural perspectives. Her work challenges societal norms and celebrates diversity, offering thought-provoking perspectives through the lens of her camera.

3) Emily Yuting Chen - IG @yche142

Born in Taiwan, Emily Yuting Chen is a visual artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. Her practice focuses on imagery making through experimentation with natural materials/phenomena that marks time (such as decaying, evaporating and reflecting). Her practice utilises process-based medium such as flat-bed scanner, thermal paper and cyanotype photography and aims to capture the ephemerality and intangibility of the world. Her interests lie in exploring different interpretations of reality through various materials and apparatus.

4) Mailen Loarte - IG @fieraverd3

Mailén Loarte is a visual artist, cultural producer, and experimental musician based in Melbourne, Australia. Born in Patagonia, Argentina, she holds a Bachelor’s degree in Visual Arts and has a background in independent cultural management.

Her practice is informed by transfeminist and decolonial perspectives, exploring questions around body, territory, and lived experience. Alongside her visual work, she performs experimental ambient music under the name Fiera Verde and collaborates in the production of experimental art and sound events in Melbourne.

Mayari is a multidisciplinary producer and performer based in Naarm, creating ethereal, club-adjacent alt-pop rooted in femininity and ancestral memory. Drawing from trance, techno and electronica, her recent work moves toward lush vocals, deep basslines and haunting arpeggios.

Her live performances have been featured at festivals and platforms such as Now or Never, AsiaTOPA, Signals Ambient and For the Cause, as well as venues including Max Watts, Sub Club and Miscellania.

2) Vessa - IG @ve.ssa_

Vessa is a Melbourne-born and based Chilean-Mauritian electronic artist whose sound blends the raw intensity of techno with melodic grooves and the emotive depth of a soundscape journey. Known for her sequenced experimentation, Vessa’s live hardware performances are rooted in improvisation and deeply responsive to their environment, creating immersive and intimate sonic experiences that live in the moment. Alongside her live work, Vessa collaborates with artists across Naarm’s visual and interdisciplinary scenes, creating sound for installations, film, and branded environments.

3) Sound Energy Club — Haylen Borrero IG @soundenergy.club

Sound Energy Club is a sound healing practice led by certified sound healer Haylen Borrero. Combining mindfulness, breathwork and live sound, the sessions use ancient instruments such as Tibetan and crystal bowls, chimes and shamanic tools.

Through immersive soundscapes designed to access theta brainwaves, the practice invites deep relaxation, energetic release and gentle restoration of body and mind.

Candela has worked as a theatre performer in Argentina, and trained as a yoga teacher in India and Australia, apart from training contemporary dance. The focus of her practice centres in using the presence not just as an enrichment for the inner self, but as a conscious choice to stand in openness towards others.
