Birrarung and Stormwater

Join Stormwater Victoria for an engaging presentation, guided tour and Q&A exploring how stormwater travels through our cities and why improving its quality is essential for a healthy Birrarung.

During this 60-minute session, passionate stormwater professionals—including engineers, landscape specialists, policy makers and researchers—will explore:

  • How the urban water cycle connects our communities to the Birrarung.

  • Why stormwater quality is so important for healthy rivers and waterways.

  • Innovative stormwater treatment projects within the Birrarung catchment.

  • Real-world examples of raingardens, rainwater harvesting and constructed wetlands at the University of Melbourne's Burnley Campus.

  • Simple actions you can take at home and in your community to improve stormwater quality.

The session concludes with an opportunity to ask questions and chat with Stormwater Victoria's volunteer experts.

Participants are encouraged to bring a picnic blanket or camp chair and enjoy this relaxed outdoor learning experience.

Acknowledgement of Country

Yarra Riverkeeper Association acknowledges that the lands and waterways of the Yarra, Birrarung catchment, are the unceded territories of the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung and Bunurong Boonwurrung peoples. We pay respect to Traditional Owners, who have, and continue, to care for Country. We acknowledge that the river now called Yarra has always been known as the Birrarung by its custodians.
