Rainbow Ride 2026
Description
Rainbow Ride is Back for Pride 2026!
Join follow Cantabrians as we form a single rainbow snake biking through Ōtautahi in celebration of diversity, fitness, sustainability and our bike-friendly city. If you want to show off your pride, move your body and raise money for some great local organisations, join us!
There are two different ways you can participate in this event:
Rider: As a rider, you'll join a team of 6-10 people, all dressed in one colour of the Progress Pride Flag. Grab a group of friends to form a team or come on your own and make some friends! Choose your preferred colour on the ticket page - get in quick before your favourite sells out.
Tickets are $10 each and all proceeds will go to RAD Bikes and the new Rainbow Hub - more info about these organisations below. We don't want money to be a barrier so if this doesn't feel financially possible, send us an email or register to be a marshal.
OR
Marshal: As a marshal, you'll be positioned along the route keeping our riders and the general public safe. Marshals are our eyes and ears and have the most important job on the day! You need to be able to communicate clearly so onlookers make space for, and cheer on, the riders as they pass. Bonus if you have a first aid certificate! It's free to marshal, we just need you to register so we have your details, and you'll need to attend one induction meeting prior to the ride.
This is a structured 40-minute ride across Hagley Park and the CBD, finishing up at the Ōtautahi Pride Market where we'll celebrate with our rainbow whānau. We encourage everyone to take photos and videos along the way (safely and with consent!) and these may be used to promote the Rain Ride and Ōtautahi.
Keep an eye out for some bonus craft events in the lead up to the ride where you can connect with other riders and marshals, work on your costume/bike decorating or help us creating a rainbow arch!
This year we're fundraising for two incredible local organisations. Each ticket you buy sends money their way!
RAD Bikes (Recycle a Dunger) runs a not-for-profit community bike workshop in Ōtautahi/Christchurch. RAD provides workshop space where everyone is welcome to help recycle and learn how to fix bikes for themselves or others. Bikes, tools, parts and technical guidance are all provided onsite! Profits from Rainbow Ride 2026 will fund a bike, helmet and lock package for 8 LGBTQIA+ community members. RAD hold regular workshops so make sure to pop by before the ride to get your bike ride-ready.
Rainbow Hub Ōtautahi is a project in the making. It will be founded by Ōtautahi Rainbow Spaces Collective (ŌRSC), comprised of local organisations and community members. Their vision is to facilitate the expression of the rainbow, takatāpui, and MVPFAFF+ community within Waitaha Canterbury, in alignment with Te Tiriti o Waitangi. Their purpose is to support rainbow, takatāpui, and MVPFAFF+ communities and their whānau by creating affirming spaces and services across various sectors that work collaboratively to break down barriers and foster opportunities for growth, diversity, and empowerment.
If you like the look of these projects and want to support, you have the chance to donate more on the next page.
