Description

Description
Immerse yourself in a hands-on glazing and raku firing workshop, focused on surface decoration and the expressive potential of glaze. You’ll explore a range of techniques to create dynamic finishes, embracing the spontaneity and unique effects that emerge through the raku process.

Set within a relaxed and supportive environment, in the Northern Rivers Community Gallery's newly launched Ignite Ceramics facility, this workshop encourages curiosity and experimentation, giving you the space to develop both technical skills and your own creative voice.

About the Artist
Elaine Richter is a practicing ceramic artist holding a Diploma in Ceramics from Western Australia. She has a strong interest in process-led making and the transformative qualities of clay. Her work focuses on the dynamic surface effects achieved through raku firing, embracing the unpredictability and immediacy that define this technique.

With an active studio practice, Elaine combines technical knowledge with an experimental approach, encouraging playful exploration and creative risk-taking. Her workshops are accessible and engaging, offering clear guidance while allowing space for individual expression. She fosters a relaxed and supportive environment where participants can connect with the material, enjoy the firing process, and discover the unique outcomes that raku produces.

Materials and Equipment
All materials are provided, including five bisque pots, glazes, tools, and firing processes. Safety equipment will also be available for use during the raku firing.

Additional Information
Come ready to explore and experiment—curiosity is key. Please wear comfortable clothing suitable for working with glaze and raku firing (items you don’t mind getting a little messy), along with closed-toe shoes. Don’t forget to bring a water bottle. Workshop participants will be required to sign an Ignite Ceramics Studio User Indemnity Form prior to workshop participation.
