RALLY for a Nuclear Free Gippsland
Event description
𝗟𝗲𝘁’𝘀 𝗸𝗲𝗲𝗽 𝗚𝗶𝗽𝗽𝘀𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗻𝘂𝗰𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗳𝗿𝗲𝗲! ☢️
Federal opposition leader Peter Dutton and the Liberal National coalition want to bring nuclear power to the Latrobe Valley.
Public hearings into nuclear are currently taking place around the country and on the 3rd of December, a parliamentary inquiry panel including federal MP for Gippsland Darren Chester, will be in Traralgon to hear from community leaders, industry and experts.
Did you know that...
💦 Water-hungry nuclear would drain precious water from agriculture, rivers and lakes, and other users. With coal operators planning to use their water for mine rehabilitation, there simply isn’t enough in the system.
☢️ Radioactive waste from reactors takes thousands of years to break down and will be stored on site, putting our families and food bowl at risk for generations.
💰 Nuclear would take billions of taxpayer dollars to build and is the most expensive form of electricity (CSIRO). It won’t deliver the jobs or energy security we need now.
