Join Studio 34 for an evening of short and sweet solo acts by a mixed six pack of West Philly performance artists working in mixed performance media. Hosted by Anathema Chaos, these Random Acts will happen all over our space and perhaps even include one executed by a willing audience member—maybe you!

Audio-video artist Palus Obducat will usher us into the evening with an interactive installation and later screen a new work, “Funnel Down.” Funnel Down question-collection, the critical potentials of memory, technological paradigms, and a blossoming lucidity (comfort) is posed in front of an anonymizing mirror. See more Palus Obducat here.

Multidisciplinary dance/movement artist Crux (pronounced Crooks) performs “SPJ,” an amalgam of two original scores that merge sound, choreography, video, composed and spontaneous text. As co-founder of Forbidden Fruit, a company dedicated to performance, wellness, and immersive events, Crux brings awareness to the value of dance, while making movement and its healing powers accessible to all bodies. More Crux here.

Random Acts curator and guide Anathem Chaos also performs a dance piece titled "Passé" by her alter-ego, Asimina Chremos. A loan word from French (“passed”), past participle of passer (“to pass”), passé can also mean no longer fashionable, out of date, or past one's prime (typically used of a woman), and  is sometimes used to indicate a dance step. Check out an episode of Chremos' Quarantine Practice Diary (2020) here.

West Philly-based Afro post-outsider Rob Peagler conglomerates iPhone drawings, Keynote and PowerPoint animations, and other digital flotsam in several brief pieces, which he calls “an amuse-bouche of delectable little pandemic stress release videos,” including the short, “Special Fuzzy Summerhands,” featuring host Anathema Chaos. Preview Rob’s piece “Gravity” here.

Finally, Morgan FitzPatrick Andrews, teaches classes and curates events for Studio 34, will execute "Piano Piece 13½," an update of a work by George Maciunas, ringleader of the Fluxus movement, first performed over 60 years ago. See and hear more from Morgan here.

Somewhere in the mix is the randomest act of all: One performed at random by a random member of the audience! Come soon after doors open at 7:30 to get your act in the Random Acts Randomizer (AKA: a hat) and maybe you’ll be summoned at some random moment to randomly perform!

Tickets at the door, $10–$20 donation, no one turned away at any cost.
